What is EmptyChair?

Founded in 2016, EmptyChair is London's home for all sorts of workshops, classes and experiences. EmptyChair allows people to host, discover and book unique classes, across a wide spectrum of categories, at times and prices that suit them best.

What we're not: we don't own or run any studios or workshops, we don't sell any guidebooks or other educational material, we're just people who are passionate about learning new skills and trying new experiences.

What are experiences, workshops & classes?

Experiences, workshops & classes are activities designed and led by local hosts. These activities often include active learning in small groups, building new skills and exploring hidden passions.

Hosts are typically experts in their own domain, providing a local twist and run activities last just a couple of hours. All activities can range from small workshops to long walks, and are available for various skill levels and interests.

For now, experiences, workshops & classes are available in London & Manchester only.

To book an experience, workshop or class, visit EmptyChair on the Appstore or the EmptyChair website.

You can also learn how to become an experience host, by selecting 'Hosting' in the top right corner of the EmptyChair website.

How can I find out more about EmptyChair?

How can I suggest an improvement?

We haven't been around for very long and are working very hard to deliver you the best service. If there is something that's been bugging you or you have been thinking about how to make EmptyChair better we would love to hear from you.

How can I unsubscribe from newsletters?

Sorry to see you go! If there is anything you thought we could have done better, please let us know. Otherwise unsubscribing is easy - click the link at the bottom of the newsletter saying unsubscribe.

What if I would like to change my booking?

We understand that plans can change and at EmptyChair we have tried very hard to make our cancellation policy as accommodating as possible for our users and partners.

If you are sure you would like to cancel your booking, we would encourage you to do so as soon as possible to ensure others have the opportunity to book the empty chair instead!

To cancel, on the app, tap the Bookings tab on the bottom middle of the screen to see your current booked upcoming classes. Tap the class you want to cancel and select Cancel.

If you cancel a class within 24 hours of the class start time, you will not be entitled to a refund. This policy is important for our partners because it ensures that they are still paid for spots that go unfilled. For many of our partners, filling each spot is critical not only for their business, but for guaranteeing you have a high-quality experience every time you attend their class.

Can I arrive late to a booking?

For the safety and experience of the other students, most of our classes are not able to admit people who arrive late to a class.

Each partner has its own policy regarding late arrivals. Most encourage you to arrive well before, often 10-15 minutes in advance. If you're ever concerned about making it to class, please reach out to EmptyChair directly via question@emptychair.co and we will do our best to help.

There has been a billing error. What do I do?

If you believe that you have been charged a different price from the stated price, please write to us at question@emptychair.com, and provide us with the booking ID (including the date and time), what you expected to pay and what you actually paid.

We try resolve all billing errors within 2 working days. Please also note you should never incur any further costs after booking and attending a class.

How can I make a complaint about a class?

We work closely with our partners to make sure our users get the best possible experience when going to a class on the EmptyChair platform.

We also ask our partners to read and accept a set of hosting standards before listing and hosting any class.

However, if there was something that let you down and left you feeling unhappy, we encourage you to share it with us. We take all complaints extremely seriously and try our best to resolve the matter within 5 working days.

How can I host on EmptyChair?

The magic of EmptyChair is that you can manage your classes yourself online 24/7. Please press 'Hosting' and get started with our simple registration process on our website.

Are there any hosting standards?

For the convenience of our partners, we have prepared a Class Hosting Standards Guidebook. These standards can help you earn great reviews for providing excellent and educational classes.

Most of these standards are common practise, but we do encourage new partners to have a quick read over them before listing a class.
